The Chinese geese is one of the most popular birds in the world. This breed of domesticated bird is either temperamental or docile. Hand raised geese are very tame and will laze around human company, they are noisy when spooked and perfect watchdogs.

Chinese goose breed

Chinese goose lay their eggs on straw nests on the floor, they sit on the eggs to keep warm or a farmer can use an incubator, it takes 28 to 35 days to hatch.

Can you eat a Chinese goose?

Yes they are popular in homestead including Cantonese cuisine. Geese is a meat bird and raising them for chow is a common practice. This is because they are fast growing and the meat is easy to cook and succulent.

Goose housing

The bird needs both indoor and outdoor areas to walk about. Housing includes shed or barn. Provide minimum of 6 x6 while ideal space per bird is 8 x 10. Use concrete or wood for flooring, and make the barn predator proof.

Provide grass land with a small pond and protect the farm with perimeter fencing.
